a shoe show.

1 // 2 // 3 // 4

As I'm heading to New York in a few days I realized I have no good shoes to spend my days walking around.  Living in a city where traveling by car is the main way to get around all my shoes are either flats I love but have no support for all day walking to high heels that would be an even worse option.  All four of these options would be versatile enough to mix and match with outfits as well as great for when I return from the city.  I'll probably throw in a pair of wedges as well for nights out.

A tip if your ever heading to NYC for the first time, always wear closed toed shoes if you plan on doing the majority of your sightseeing by foot.  Sandals=black feet at the end of the day!

i want to wake up in that city.

I'll be heading to New York next week to spend some time in the city and show my parents around.  I lived in Manhattan for a few months back in 2o1o and have not been back since.  Thus I am extremely excited to spend a few days exploring, eating great food, spending some time poking around museums, and of course shopping.  My dad being raised in the deep South has never been to the city while my mom grew up right outside of it so I'm excited for us to show him around and explore a little.

This week and part of next week I plan on doing a New York series featuring everything from city style to my favorite spots that I found while living there to things to do and places to eat.

Any favorite spots of your own?  Or perhaps you lived in the City for some time?

quiet time.

The blog has been pretty silent lately.  Mostly due to my lack of initiative.  I promise to be back in full swing next week!  Happy Weekend!

inspiration.

I've been finding so much inspiration on Pinterest lately so I thought I would share a few of the things I want to incorporate into my home someday.  Most of them more likely when I have a house but until then...

I see a trend going on.  A lot of black, white, splashes of pink, navy, and some coral with neutrals mixed in.  Love all of these.  Where have you been getting your inspiration from lately?

trying times.

Sometimes there are days when I feel like nothing I do is good enough.  One of those seems to be today.  So I’m signing off, see you all tomorrow. :)

around the house.

A few changes have occurred around the house lately.  My parents delivered the chair I inherited from my Grandmother.  The gallery wall if finally up, it now needs prints for the frames.  And my roommate made this cute little yarn wreath for our door.

I really love the lines of the new chair and am looking forward to having it reupholstered.  I'm thinking maybe a blue velvet or perhaps something a little more graphic.  As for the gallery wall, it was pretty simple getting it up.  I know there are tons of tutorials on how to hang one but I always lay it out on the floor then slowly put up the frames, starting in the middle and working my way out.

What did you do over the weekend?  I crossed off all but two things on my to do list so I consider that a pretty successful weekend!

weekend fun.

My boyfriend bought me a bunch of wooden spoons when we first started dating and to this day I still have no clue why, maybe an omen for me to learn to cook?  They have become a very useful present that I use quite often but I would love to dip them into some fun colorful paints to spice up my utensil container!  Just a little bit of sunshine in the kitchen to brighten the day.

What are you doing this weekend?  My plans are...

...Hit up every thrift store I can find to look for the pieces of furniture that have seemed to be eluding me.

...Go out on the water

...Head to Lowes to finally get the inspiration board/way to hide the ugly desk nook started, I need materials!

...Sleep in

...Take another look at the progress of the office redo I am working on and start thinking up ideas for layout and fabric choices.

Happy Weekend!

lamp redo.

So here is the before (sorry bad cell phone picture)...

And the after...

I can't decide if I like it or not.  It still needs a little work as the inside is a mess.  I have to hot glue some ribbon on the seam inside and on the back for it to look finished or else it would look like this.

What do you think?  Honest opinions!  I look at it sometimes and I like it, especially that retro vibe it gives off.  I look at it again and hate it.  Love/Hate relationship perhaps?!?

the final answer is no.

I started a whole Wedding Wednesday post today only to delete the whole thing after completing it because I thought the picture collage looked ugly.  If your wondering what the topic was, it was Groom's Gifts and the selections I thought best were a watch, wallet, sporting event tickets/concert tickets, and a cigar humidor...original I know.  Thus the reason it was deleted.

Lately I have had a lot of trouble finding inspiration and keep second guessing all my decisions.  For instance, the dresser I loved and wanted to use as a TV console I was a little unsure about but for $40 who cares right?  Well I waited and kept thinking about it, going on my lunch break twice to look at it then again today and what do you know...its gone.  Then while I'm at the Habitat ReStore I find some awesome chairs for the office redo I'm working on only to find out they will not sell them without the set...aka the $150 dining set I don't need.  I asked nicely, was told no.  I told them they probably wouldn't sell the set because the table was messed up along with one of the chairs, I was told no.  I told them I would pay $50 for two chairs (1/3 of the price), and again was told no.  So I gave up.  I plan to return in a week or so to try again, if luck turns my way and they don't sell it before then.  Does anyone else stalk the Habitat ReStore?  I'm planning a quick trip to the Habitat ReStore right down from my new apartment this afternoon so maybe tomorrow I will have some new finds.

Does anyone else love this cork board?  Talk about inspiring!  I'm still looking for the perfect fabric for the piece that will eventually cover all the shelves in my desk nook, a large inspiration board per se.  And on a good note my parents delivered the chair I inherited from my grandmother so that will be going to the upholsterer one day to get recovered and will sit at the now chair less desk.

Until then...

delays.

It feels like forever since I last posted.  July 4th plus a short vacation took up a lot of time but I am ready to get back into the swing of things.  I was able to work on a few projects that I have been meaning to take some time to do.  One of them being a lamp redo that I'm not so sure I'm going to end up liking.  Its a retro shape with a huge drum shade but the base is not looking too great as of right now so we shall see once I cover the shade.  I'm a little upset because I paid more for this lamp than I normally would but heres to hoping!

I also found a great piece of fabric that I am going to use to make into a rug.  Its a nice bright green chenille that's thick enough to pass for a rug and for $12 for two yards should work well in my living room.  If it doesn't I plan on using it in the office I'm working on with some navy green accents.

What did you do over the holiday?  Anything exciting or maybe some decorating projects?

apartment.

Happy Belated July 4th!  Hope everyone had a great day yesterday.  I was working but did manage to squeeze in a little fun last night!

I did finally manage to get some pictures of my new place and wanted to share them.  Not much has gone into the decorating process as we still have some boxes left to unpack but we have started to set things out and put some things up on the walls.  I actually finished the gallery wall yesterday and will share the progress soon!

There you have it.  A little bare but we are slowly getting there.  A lot of projects to go in the coming months to change a few things up from the old place so stay tuned!
